“We Are Diverse, We Are Limitless!”
These emphatic words resonated loudly and proudly through GRAFFWERKS studio in Brooklyn as CFS’ Magic of Music group poured their hearts and souls into CFS’ first-ever song and music video!
With the help of talented songwriter, Lindsey Wilson, the CFS Magic of Music group embarked on a journey of expression, creativity and collaboration. Over the course of seven months and several workshops, the group’s participants explored their experiences and emotions, and worked together on their rhythm and song-writing skills to craft a song and music video that represents what CFS means to them. And joining them to capture it all on film was documentary filmmaker, Aley R. Seoudy from Offrampfilms.
The result? CFS’ first theme song made music-video: “We Are Diverse, We Are Limitless.”
The journey from creating lyrics to producing a music video was filled with joy, excitement, and a newfound sense of accomplishment for CFS’ Magic of Music, recalls participant Kevin. “It came out so great. I’m proud of it and everyone here for what we managed to do,” Kevin proudly exclaimed.
For many, the process was not just about creating music but was also a journey of self-discovery and confidence-building. Another participant, Julio, for example, discovered a new talent. Despite his initial reluctance to sing, Julio ended up playing the beats of the song, leading the rhythms section, and keeping everyone’s energy levels high during the performance.
Participants like Anatoly and Ana also discovered hidden musical talents as they stepped out of their comfort zones and started singing, with Anatoly even taking on a solo!
Every Thursday for months, the Magic of Music group dedicated its time and effort to perfecting the song.
Songwriter Lindsey Wilson’s guidance along with the unwavering support of CFS Innovative Department and DSPs who participated fostered an environment of collaboration and encouragement for the group. The group especially relied on DSP Tamiko Hill for ideas, energy, and her special connections.
“This project meant the world to me. Music is love, and for love to be created, you need to touch someone’s heart. The teamwork, the love – it’s all over the video,” shares Lindsey.
“I’ve worked at CFS for many years but this is by far my favorite project,” summed up Debra of CFS’ Innovative Department beautifully. “I’m thankful to the CFS Foundation and their Board of Directors for making this possible for our self-advocates.”
Director of Development at CFS Ted Traver also voiced his appreciation for the group and this project, “I’m grateful that everyone has this recording and video to capture all the work, creativity and positive energy that this song and project inspired.”
“We Are Diverse, We Are Limitless” is more than just a song. It’s a testament to the indomitable spirit, immense potential, and creative spirit that binds our community together. The music video serves as a reminder that CFS is a loving family – a diverse and special one at that – and always will be!
